Swine flu

Swine flu is an influenza strain that has mutated and started to spread in some parts of the world, confirmed cases have been reported from the U.S. , México, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Costa Rica and Israel with possibilities reaching other countries as well. As of mid April a number of deaths have been recorded from these countries. The center for disease control and prevention (CDC) listed Tamiflu and Relenza as medication for both prevention and a cure. A list of symptoms is listed below

Signs and Symptoms
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea and vomiting
One should note that these symptoms are not specific to swine flu; a differential diagnosis of probable swine flu requires not only symptoms but also a high likelihood of swine flu due to the person's recent history. For example, consider swine influenza infection in the differential diagnosis of patients with acute febrile respiratory illness either who have been in contact with persons with confirmed swine flu, or who were in one of the areas where swine flu has been reported and confirmed during the 7 days preceding their illness onset. A diagnosis of confirmed swine flu requires laboratory testing of a respiratory sample. So please be vigilant.
